UFO: Alien Invasion is a strategy game for Windows. It is a turn-based 3D game that allows you to create a base anywhere in the world and fight alien invasions.
Since it is a turn-based game, don't expect high-paced action. The first screen you will see when you fire up the game is a map of the world. There, you will be able to select a location for your bases. The first one you create will be your main base of operations. You can upgrade your bases in many ways. And you should do it, since many units won't be available until you do. You can man your bases with soldiers, medics, researches, and then buy aircraft and vehicles. You get credits every time you successfully fight off an alien invasion.
UFO: AI has a lot of potential. I like how many things you can research and how many different types of units there are. Although you don't see fights actually happening, it is fun to be the strategist behind an army. However, there are some problems. I found myself lost at the beginning trying to move units around. There was the "tips of the day" window when I started the game, but that didn't really help much. A more personalized help window would be great. The music is actually great; the graphics, however, not so much.
Pros
- Cross-platform
- Nice soundtrack
- Several research options and units
Cons
- No on-screen help for beginners
